And before that, the Virus A, B and C were released within 5 years, between 1997 and 2002. So the interval has been increasing, approximately exponentially. So no, the next model is not 'really overdue'. Moreover, the Ti became the Ti2 because, if I had to hazard a guess, the DSP it was based on (the 56367) was discontinued, which forced a redesign. The software was basically the same. So if I had to speculate, I'd say that the Ti3 will only come along when the Ti2's DSPs become hard to come by; if you want to find out when that'll be, your best bet is probably to ask NXP what their roadmap is for the DSP56321.
