Each realm has 5 unique races and up to 14 different classes. It’s not one of those games where everything is the same and everyone has the same abilities. Yet it is very well balanced and in the big war every Alliance has a good chance of winning battles.

You level your way up to level 50 in your faction’s homeland, which is safe and cannot be invaded. There’s a few quests here and there, but the best way of gaining experience is grouping up with others and kill monsters and explore the world.

There’s a lot of different dungeons and camps and grouping is really, really rewarding in DAoC: You will level significantly faster than soloing and social play is a key experience of this game. When you hit level 50 you will take part in big raids to the other realm’s frontier zones, where you can raid and conquer enemy keeps and relics. Doing so will reward you with Realm Points, which will give you new titles to display your skill to your enemies on the battlefield and strong Realm Abilities, which make your character stronger. The PvP of this game is one of the best systems the MMORPG market has seen, up to this day.

Anyone who played it will confirm that it is a very very tactical and deep system with a lot of ways to participate in it: soloing, small-groups and zerging all have their place. If you play well with your team (up to 8 players can be part of a group) you can defeat much, much larger groups of enemies. Outplaying a 16 or even more than 24 man big force is possible, a small, organized team can even take out a whole zerg if they use the right tactics and communication. It is one of the few games where the bigger zerg does not win 100% of the time, but smart and clever tactics can make a significant difference. I know, the game looks old (graphics wise) but the art style give it a special kind of vibe and the very deep and tactical combat system and PvP system more than make up for it. If you're new to the game, it will take you some time to get used to it, but trust me, once you reach level 50 and get into PvP it's definitely worth it.
