I don't remember if this has really been discussed and I'm too lazy to look, but what was everybody's reaction to Shine? What did you think of it upon it's release, what songs have grown on/off you, what lyrics resonate (or don't) with you, etc? I HATED it when it was released. I felt it like a betrayal, like Joni making an album just because of the money, like she said 'Ok, let's make this and people will buy it anyway coz I'm Joni Mitchell'. It took me like two years to appreciate it. I don't like the album as a whole, the saxophone parts are something that I can't get used to and the guitar sounds are weird.

I like Strong And Wrong, but I think it would've been amazing if it was just Joni and the piano. The instrumental is. Meh; couldn't care less about it. If (the song) is sublime. But seriously, the version of Big Yellow Taxi is the worst thing I've heard from Joni.

I've been listening to 'shine' a lot recently, and i really think it is a very strong album.personally, i much, much prefer it to 'taming the tiger', which i always find disappointing, and a little bit underwhelming. I think i only 'half-listened' to 'shine' when it came out, and the last few months i've been re-evaluating 80s-onwards joni with new ears, and finding some real treasure in every record. I absolutely love 'hana', 'if', 'bad dreams', 'night of the iguana', 'this place'.i think 'shine' is possibly one of her greatest later-era songs. I agree that 'big yellow taxi' remake doesnt really work. I like the saxophone on the record, and i love some of the percussion/rhythm work. 'heavy' is a good adjective for this album, but i guess i see that as more of a positive thing.it's a real insight into her mind and her preoccupations at this point in her life/career. I think it's really a beautiful album, there's something strangely complex about it, even by her incredible standards.

I don't think A Case of You was necessarily a 'hit' though. At the same time, it could have been included on Misses as a sales booster considering most of the other tracks were relatively unknown.

Entrepreneurial Finance Smith Pdf Writer. Funny you should mention the compilations because I was just looking at all of the track lists this morning. I can never decide if Dreamland, Prairie Girl or Survival is my favorite.

I guess it depends on my mood. Also, some of the low sales of the compilations are shocking. I don't know how accurate the figures are on Wiki, but The Complete Geffen Recordings only sold 5,000 copies? That's really low right?
